Controlling Lawn & Garden Pests

To make the most of your outdoor space this summer, you may need to take steps to control the pests that populate your lawn and/or garden.  While some invasive species might affect the health of your plants, others may prevent you from being outdoors at all.  If you are bothered by specific insects, it's important to know what is attracting them and also what habitat is supporting their population.  For example, bees are great pollinators, but too many can be troublesome. Sometimes it helps to ensure that certain flowers are moved away from your seating area.

It's also wise to survey your property, in case there's a nearby beehive or wasp nest that needs professional removal.  At the very least, ensuring your yard is tidy and not overgrown will keep unwanted insects and other potential vermin from breeding nearby.  Rotting timber or debris should be removed, and standing water should always be tipped or drained, as it provides the perfect hatching environment for mosquito eggs.  Of course, there are also many electronic and chemical solutions for pest control, but you should first ask at your garden centre about effective treatments that are environmentally friendly.

Happy warmer weather!!!
